Our Story

The Helmets to Hardhats Program was conceptualized in 2002 and rolled out nationally in 2003 to assist Post 9/11 Veterans transition into careers in the Building Trades.  New York, with its rich union density and high Veteran population, was one of the original launch sites for the program.  To date, over 3,000 Veterans in New York State have started construction careers.  NY Helmets to Hardhats has a team of dedicated professionals dedicated to your transition.

 Our Approach

NY H2H has a very hands on, personal approach.  Every Veteran that fully registers on the site will receive an email of successful completion with links to contact our support team for further assistance.  We know technology is king, but nothing can replace a live person with knowledge of the trades in your area to facilitate your transition.

Meet the Team

Anne Malloy-Trenkle

New York State Director

Anne Trenkle joined the National Helmets to Hardhats Program as New York State Director in July 2003. Her initial undertaking was focused on developing innovative methods of incorporating the Helmets to Hardhats Program into apprenticeship programs throughout NY, including implementing direct entry for returning veterans as well as establishing a 15% veteran population in all participating NYS apprenticeship programs. In the Fall of 2013, Anne achieved a long time goal of establishing New York City Helmets to Hardhats, Inc., a separate 501c3 Labor-Management Initiative, dedicated to assisting the transition of a diverse NYC Veteran population into careers in the NYC construction industry.  Anne began her career in the industry working for the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York.
